Thomas E. “Tommy” Landes, 74, of Frankfort, formerly of Lafayette, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born April 23, 1948, in Lafayette, to Cleo Robert and Mary Louise (Oly) Landes. He married Sandra Ann Southern and they later divorced.
Tommy was raised outside Mulberry on his family’s farm. He graduated in 1968 from Clinton Prairie High School then later attended Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis. He had previously worked for Case/New Holland in Lebanon and Federal Mogul in Frankfort. He also worked at Fairfield Manufacturing and left there to pursue a better job at Rostone Manufacturing until they sold the company. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and lawnmowers, fishing with Tom, but his main passion was doing things at the church. He was a longtime member of the Dayton United Methodist Church where he was involved in the Men’s Bible Club and also Bible Study. He formerly attended
St. Paul’s Community Church in Linden and Geetingsville Presbyterian Church. He had been to Africa twice with the Dayton UMC on mission trips.
Tommy is survived by his sons, Todd Wayne (Angelina) Landes of Chesterfield, MI and Robert Eugene (April) Landes of Kokomo; daughter, Tawnya Sue (Brian) Meagher of Frankfort; brother, Wayne Edward (Rhoda) Landes of Frankfort; sister, Priscilla (Frank) Fossnock of Frankfort; and grandchildren, Jordan (Megan), Jason, Jasmine, Jocilyn, Kyle, Casey, Emma, and Ethan.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Tabor.
Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 3pm until the beginning of the memorial service at 4pm at the Dayton United Methodist Church 7201 Wesleyan Drive Dayton, Indiana 47941. Pastors Earl Owen, Mary Hollis, and Eric Schneider will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry. Donations may be made, in memory of Tom, to Dayton United Methodist Church Missions, 7201 Wesleyan Drive, Dayton, IN 47941. Genda Funeral Home-Mulberry Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
