Delma Jean LaRue, 94, of Frankfort, passed away on December 12, 2017, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.
She was born August 10, 1923, in Colorado Spring, CO, to Delmar C. and Myra B. (Clark) Smith. On August 30, 1942, she married Maurice E. “Jack” LaRue in Independence, MO; he passed away on August 10, 2004.
Jean graduated from King City High School in Missouri, attended Catholic University, and later George Washington University for two years. Jean lived in Kokomo for almost 30 years before moving to Frankfort in 1994. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kokomo, PEO Sisterhood, and the Deborah Circle of both St. Matthew United Methodist Church and the Irvington United Methodist Church. Jean served as a past president of the United Methodist Church Women in Indianapolis and Kokomo. She truly enjoyed her time with people, her church, nature, and music although she was not a musician. Jean will be remembered for her saying like, “Not only be kind, be generous.”
Surviving Jean are her sons, Dan Spencer LaRue, of Indianapolis, and Gary Lee LaRue (wife, Lesley), of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer VanNewkirk (husband, Cern), Meridee LaRue, and Jeffery LaRue, and two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Max.
In addition to her husband, Jean is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lameta Larson, brother, Nathaniel Smith, and daughter-in-law, Nora Westlake.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at the Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel in Wesley Manor from 2:00 p.m. to the start of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Chaplain Deborah Musick will officiate. Memorials in Jean’s name may be made to Wesley Manor Good Samaritan Fund or a charity of choice. Inurnment will be held at a later date by her husband, Jack, in Green Lawn Cemetery.
